Elvira: 56 and seeking a few successors!
Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, turned 56 yesterday, September 17th!
Born Cassandra Peterson, her sexy punk-vampire appearance made her famous. She became the host for B-grade horror flicks, known for reclining on a red Victorian couch, introducing providing commentary (aka mocking the actors, script, and bad editing) of lower-grade horror films.
Her valley-girl tone, combined with her campy style or humor, made her a popular icon of the punk movement from the 1980s, into the transitioning Goth scene of the 1990s and beyond.
What’s she doing now? She’s trying to find a few good Elviras to help her out with various appearances. No, she’s not retiring. She simply “likens the idea of finding a new Elvira to that of Batman and Bozo the Clown, characters played by several actors over the years. ‘Obviously, I don’t want to be walking around dressed up like Elvira when I’m 105 years old.’” (Source)
Word has it that Fox will be taking on this new reality TV endeavor, tentatively called “The Search for the Next Elvira,” and rumored to be starting October 13, 2007.
